Community Well #1
Our first well was built in the village of Valaichchenai. It would be built at the school so that students had access to clean water during the school-day. Valaichchenai is a village in the Northern dry zone of Sri Lanka that doesn't have access to clean water during the dry season. Our well supplied them with year-round clean drinking water for the 100+ families who lived there. This has been the most expensive well we've built because it ended up being a community well with multiple taps so that it would serve multiple people at a time. This well was completed on June 30th 2020.

In September 2019 the first attempt to build a traditional well began. However, after much groundwork had been completed, the floods in October 2019 completely destroyed the well.
Second Attempt
Second Attempt
After waiting several months for the land to be suitable to recommence work on the well, it was decided that a tube well would provide a more sustainable and reliable supply of water. The tube well, unlike a traditional well would be 200 feet in depth and be connected to an electric water pump and water tank. It would also have many taps/faucets for its users.
